Does Salem’s Lot the book read as scary as that movie?

I concur heartily that the book 11.22.63 is one of the top three. Never read any King before this. It’s Steven King take on Kennedy assassination. And then some.

Salem Lot is my favorite of King's novels, but as it's an early work, he was still kind of finding his voice and style. I will say, I love the part of the book about the cheating wife. And the most disturbing part of it was the child abuse of the baby. I was like "Did a woman just punch a baby in the face??" But the POV's and town characters are what make this book for me.
